Beckley’s Men’s Clothing, pictured here in 1915 at First and Fremont streets. Jake Beckley came to Las Vegas with his boyhood friend Jake Von Tobel and was a founding partner in the Ed Von Tobel Lumber Company. He opened Beckley’s Men’s Clothing with his brother William in 1908 and they remained in business until 1942. Second generation German Americans, the Beckley brothers, along with Ed Von Tobel, Sr., and Cyril S. Wengert, were instrumental in the formation and evolution of community organizations in Las Vegas such as the Elks, the Rotary Club, Masonic and Eagles Lodges, and the Chamber of Commerce.
